Former NFL player and current Hinds County Constable Leon Seals has started the Legends of Mississippi Bar and Restaurant on Canton Square along with his wife Lynn Seals and their two sons, Jordan and George. Together, the family has decided to build upon Canton’s tradition of excellence and provide afterhours business on top of good food and good times.
“We thrive on the way you’re treated when you walk into the restaurant,” said Seals. “We want you to enjoy your meal and know that it will taste just as good when you come back days, weeks, months later. We are thriving on producing a product that lasts.”
Lynn Seals adds, “We feel it’s a wonderful opportunity for Canton tourism to have this restaurant bring people to the city. We see people go from our restaurant into other shops around the square and that’s great. We want to bring traffic here. We love this town. We want to express our appreciation for the support the city of Canton and the Chamber of Commerce has shown us.”
The theme for the restaurant came from the Seals family, an idea encouraged by their sons. The Seals looked into various areas and venues before choosing Canton as the home base for their restaurant and bar. Sometime in the future they plan on opening up a second location in Jackson. Also on their schedule is acquiring their liquor license, a process which has almost been completed.
The Seals have a tentative grand opening date set for July 20. They plan to have a ribbon-cutting ceremony, live entertainment, and about 20 to 25 current and former NHL players making an appearance.
“Shoutout to our sons Jordan and George,” said Seals. Jordan and George, who played basketball at Rust College and Alcorn State University respectively, are managers at the Legends of Mississippi Restaurant and Bar. “Lynn and I would be lost without them. We couldn’t do this without our sons running it day-to-day. They even let me buss tables when I come in sometimes.”
